Homer Simpson is known throughout the world. Having been on TV for over 20 seasons, this patriarch is not the father who knows best, but he certainly tries. Homer Simpson is based on creator Matt Groening's father, who is also named Homer. And if you look at Homer's profile, a bit of his hair and his ear form the initials "M G."
"What's up, doc?" Bugs Bunny is, perhaps, the most recognizable and famous cartoon character. Looney Tuneswere first created as lead-ins to feature films. Bugs first appeared as a n-name rabbit in 1938 in "Porky's Hare Hunt." Tex Avery later named him Bugs Bunny after the infamous West Coast mobster. Decades later, Looney Tunes cartoons became a Saturday morning staple. Bugs Bunny is still tops. Chuck Jones. (C) TURNER BROADCASTING, INC. A TIME WARNER COMPANY. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

PIN By Nancy Basile Updated October 19, 2015. Chuck Jones was the last surviving artistic giant from the golden era of Warner Bros. animation, a period that lasted from roughly 1935 to 1959. Chuck Jones was a master at creating expressive characters, including Road Runner, Wile E Coyote and Daffy Duck. Among his many achievements, one masterpiece was 1957's "What’s Opera, Doc?" featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Chuck Jones, who died in 2002, once said an animator is "an actor with a pencil." Childhood Chuck Jones was the son of a sometimes abusive father, who ran a paper company. Though his father was brutal, he supplied him with endless amounts of paper, which encouraged Jones to draw. Jones dropped out of high school and enrolled in the Chouinard Art Institute (later known as the California Institute of the Arts) in Los Angeles at age 15. Early Career After a brief stint at a commercial art studio, he became a cartoon cel-washer at the Ub Iwerks Studio. He moved up the ranks, becoming a cartoon cel painter, inker and in-betweener (or assistant animator) before being fired, rehired and fired again by Iwerks. Jones was promoted to animator in 1934 and worked on several cartoons helmed by Friz Freleng and others. See also: What is cel animation? Golden Era After a crippling animators strike in the 1940s, of which Jones was a fervent supporter, studios began cutting back on production costs for cartoons, which resulted in less lavish animation. The cutback, however, spurred Jones to some of his greatest achievements. He began experimenting with stylized, minimalist backgrounds, refining movement and paring animation to its essentials. Bugs Bunny Chuck Jones directed the second and third appearances of the prototype for Bugs Bunny. Jones' best Bugs Bunny cartoon was "What's Opera, Doc?" in 1957, which condensed Wagner's 14-hour Der Ring Des Nibelungen into a six minute cartoon starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. In 1992, the film was selected for the Library of Congress' National Film Registry. Daffy Duck Chuck Jones conceived Daffy Duck as a coward who was continually undone by his own selfishness. Jones' cartoons starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd ("Rabbit Fire," "Rabbit Seasoning" and "Duck! Rabbit! Duck!") were subtle and strong examples of character animation. Chuck Jones also found success placing Daffy in wildly incongruous settings, such as "The Scarlet Pumpernickel," "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century" and "Robin Hood Daffy." Jones broke the "fourth wall" with "Duck Amuck" in 1953, when Daffy is tormented by a mostly off-screen animator and actually talks directly into the "camera." Chase Scenes and The WB Frog Chuck Jones won an Oscar for Warner Bros. in 1949 with "For Scent-imental Reasons," which starred one of his most popular creations, the amorous French skunk, Pepe Le Pew. Jones also created the Road Runner and Wile E Coyote series, which represented the chase film boiled down to its essentials. In addition to working with an impressive stable of continuing characters, Jones shined at "one-shot" cartoons. The most celebrated example may be "One Froggy Evening" from 1955, an allegory about a singing frog, later named Michigan J. Frog, who became the symbol of Warner Bros.' WB Network in the mid-'90s. Tom, Jerry and the Grinch After Warner Bros. closed its animation studio in the early 1960s, Chuck Jones briefly joined MGM, where he produced and directed a series of Tom and Jerry cartoons. He kept working through his own production company, Chuck Jones Enterprises, primarily on TV specials, the most famous of which was Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, originally broadcast on CBS in 1966. Awards in Retirement In 1993, he signed a deal with Warner Bros. to produce and direct new animated shorts featuring classic and new characters. At the age of 82, he produced and directed "Chariots of Fur," a new Road Runner and Wile E Coyote cartoon released with the feature Richie Rich. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame the following year. Chuck Jones was given an honorary Oscar at the 1996 ceremony for "the creation of classic cartoons and cartoon characters whose animated lives have brought joy to our real ones for more than half a century."
As his very name suggests, Captain Caveman is an actual caveman, who is thousands of years old. Not only does he have the ability to fly, but he can also pull out all sorts of objects from his extremely long body hair, which covers his entire body, save for his legs, arms, nose and eyes.
The Adams Family is without a doubt the most horrifying animated family. They are obsessed with everything that would appear as grim, bizarre and frightening to ordinary people. The family consists of Gomez, the father, Morticia, the mother and their two children – Pugsley and Wednesday, who enjoy playing mean death defying tricks to each other. Living with them are also the self-abusive uncle Fester, Grandmama the witch and their butler Lurch, who bears a strong resemblance to the Frankenstein monster.
Scooby Doo is an easily frightened dog who, despite his many fears, is part of a group of teenagers whose job is solving crimes and mysteries which often include ghosts and monsters. Scooby’s best friend is Shaggy, who is equally cowardly as his dog companion, and their favorite hobby is eating. It’s one of the best Hanna-Barbera Saturday morning cartoon series ever made.
Scooby Doo full review
With protests about the Saturday cartoon as being too violent and the push to introduce programs that were more friendly and suitable for children in the 60’s, Scooby Doo was the perfect saviour of that time as its introduction was what the Saturday TV needed at that time.
With original characters of the cartoon series being Shaggy, Fred, Velma, Daphne, and of course Scooby Doo, the series kicked off in 1969. The composition of these characters gave rise to the Mystery Incorporated gang with Scooby’s nephew and cousin in Scrappy-Doo and Scooby-Dum respectively joining the series as years passed.
Scooby Doo is a big talking dog. Brown in color with some few black spots, it always has the blue collar that has its initials on it. With a pretty bad vocabulary and impediments to its speech, Scooby’s words were not particularly very audible especially as it starts almost all its words with the letter “R”. He therefore preferred to use charades in many instances in order for people to understand its utterances.
You might also want to know that this big dog character has a soft spot for “scooby snacks”, I.e., dog crackers and it would ultimately put it in a good mood once it has a taste of the crackers.
Shaggy, who doubles as its owner is its best friend and they both possess some common attributes like being extremely cowardly in scary situations involving ghosts and similar hunger levels and cravings for food.
The cartoon series are based on supernatural events which is the source of Scooby Doo’s crew name “Mystery Incorporated” as the dog and its friends claim to be able to solve mystery cases of this nature, even though, these cases turn out to be mere imposters and not really supernatural beings.
Scooby Doo not only made its name as being a hilarious cartoon character, its fame as this, transcended to the gaming world as a number of online games were developed based on its characters. And because they were friendly to all age groups, these games further increased the popularity of the already well-known big brown dog everyone could play it.
The games are as funny as the cartoon series and even after decades since it made its first appearance on TV screens in the United States of America, it continues to generate interest from every cartoon lover and lover of humor across the globe
Along with Donald and Mickey Mouse, Goofy is the most famous Disney character. He is not very intelligent and rather clumsy, but always joyous and friendly. In the comic books, he stars in, he sometimes appears as his alter-ego Super Goof, a superhero with powers similar to those of Superman, which he gains after eating a special type of peanuts.
Goofy full review
Goofy is not just a funny Disney character, it is definitely a well-nurtured one that got its name from the fact that is not too bright. It has become a part of Mickey’s Gang after several years of consistent association with them. Regardless of its silly nature, Goofy remains one of the most loved Disney characters.
Its first appearance on TV screens came as a result of being a part of the audience in Mickey’s Revue back in 1932. What a great way of making your presence felt by crunching peanuts and laughing very loud. It did not take long before other members had enough of its disturbance and two of the spectators knocked him out with a mallet, imitating his laughter as they did so. This was probably what shot Goofy into limelight and there has been no going back since then.
It once took on the appearance of an old man with a puffy tail and no pants. The voice was done by Pinto Colvig who coincidentally was a clown and musician.
It didn’t take long before Goofy became a common face on another cartoon series. It was a member of the crew that had other characters like Minnie, Pluto, Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle Cow as members.
Before it was changed in 1938 to Dippy the Goof, its initial name was Dippy Dawg. It got its name Goofy in 1939 with the release of the ‘Goofy and Wilbur’ cartoon.
Not every cartoon character had its abilities like being able to speak and being similar to a human character.
A huge fraction of its own cartoons was made in the forties and fifties, appearing in other cartoon series, with the likes of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
The “how to” cartoon series that featured Goofy was also a source of fame for the character, making its name with many mishaps.
Its appearance in the fifties was as Mr. Geef where he had a family and a wife and son.
There was also a reintroduction in the nineties with only his son featuring this time around with the wife’s voice only heard from the background.
Its more recent appearance was as a widower and a single father.
Sayings like ‘Gwash’ , A-hyuck!’, ‘Huh,’ and ‘Well, whaddya know…’ were its favourites.
The Art Babbit and Frank Webb continue to ring a humorous bell in the heads of those that were fortunate enough to see it.
Snow White came to life in the Walt Disney movie back in 1937. Her character was of course based on that of the princess from the famous fairy tale. Not only was Snow White the first ever Disney Princess, but she is also the first female cartoon character with a star on the Walk of Fame.
Snow White full review
The Disney princess, Snow White is one of the dearest of all the Disney Princesses and after her appearance in one of Walt Disney’s cartoons in the mid 1990s, the character has gone on to gain popularity with people of all ages. Snow White made her premiere in the fairytale, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” after Walt Disney with the help of his 600 staffs.
The extraordinary Walt Disney was a super storyteller and cartoonist and in creating the Snow White character and the many stories that came with the Walt Disney cartoons, he employed the services of the best artists around and had them trained specially for the purpose. He also ensured they worked in a very conducive environment that could be likened to a college campus.
Like most of the other Walt Disney cartoons, the story of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” came from the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. The tale’s actual title was “Snow White”. The people behind it, namely Wilhelm Grimm and Jacob Grimm were German academics, responsible for the idea behind many other fairy tales like “Cinderella”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Rapunzel”, and “Little Red Riding Hood”. They were also behind other works which include “Hansel and Gretel”, “The Frog Prince”, and “Rumpelstiltskin” among others.
The world famous Snow White is a beautiful princess with black hair and a red bow in it. She puts on a dress that comes with a yellow skirt and blue bodice with some red features on her shoulders.
The story behind Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs centers on her wicked stepmother, the jealous queen and the Magic mirror which is asked for the fairest one of all. The magic mirror replies that the queen has ordered that Snow White must be killed and this result in her fleeing from the queen’s evil plan to prevent the queen from killing her.
In her quest to escape from the queen, Snow White comes in contact with seven dwarfs and becomes friends with them. The dwarfs were named Grumpy Sleepy, Sneezy, Doc, Dopey, and Bashful. Adriana Caselotti performed Snow White’s voice in the film.
Even after years of making her first appearance as a cartoon character, Snow White continues to remain loved by many cartoon lovers and her character is one that will remain in the memories of many people for years to come.
Snow White is actually one of the most loved and sweetest characters among the many from the Walt Disney cartoon characters.
The Gummi bears are a group of anthropomorphic bears who live in the woods. Their home is the trunk of a hollow tree where they stay away from the human population, who think the bears are just mythical creatures, rather than real ones. By drinking a special juice, prepared by wild Gummiberries, the bears acquire the ability to spring about similar to bouncy balls.
Chip and Dale are two chipmunks created by the Walt Disney studios in the ‘50s. They used to mostly appear in Donald Duck cartoons where they would play pranks on him and constantly get in his way. In the ‘90s, they got their own show in which they are a part of the Rescue Rangers alongside Monty the rat, the mouse Gadget and Zipper the fly. Together they fight crime and solve various mysteries.
Chip ‘n’ Dale full review
Creations of Walt Disney Productions, Chip and Dale came into existence in the early forties, 1943 to be precise. They got their now famous names from another famous person from the world of cabinet making – Thomas Chippendale with the suggestion of the names coming from Bill Henson.
The first TV appearance of the pair came in 1943 in Private Pluto, though a bit different from their subsequent looks and with no names as their names came in 1947, they did not fail to register themselves and their loving characters in the hearts of viewers. This created the foundation for them to become the most famous chipmunks in the world today.
These lovable creatures are funny with Chip portrayed as the logical schemer, while Dale is the goofy one and also dim-witted. They are almost always against the plots and exploits of Pluto and would almost never stop teasing and troubling the old Donald Duck in their initial introduction to the world of cartoon.
With their huge acceptance and popularity, it only made sense that they had their won cartoon series and this happened in the fifties when they had three series of cartoons. Chicken in the Rough in 1951, Two Chips and a Miss in ‘52 and The Lone Chipmunks in 1954 were the three cartoon series of the chipmunks.
Not only do the characters have admirable and funny behaviors, their looks are also loved by many. While they initially had some resemblance in their appearance, the pair was later distinguished with some features in order for their fans to easily differentiate between them. One of the differences that can easily be spotted is Chip’s small black nose and two protruding center teeth. Dale on the other hand was given a big red nose while exposing his obvious buck teeth. Their furs were also used in differentiating them as while Chip had smooth and short fur on his head, Dale’s fur is a bit ruffled.
Besides their own cartoon series, they have made appearances in several other works and with other equally famous and great cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse.
They have always being friends and partners in crime with their first fight on TV coming in Two Chips and a Miss,a work that happens to be their second cartoon series. Clarice was the cause of the trouble with both chipmunks trying everything possible to get her attention.
These two very famous chipmunks continue to thrill lovers of animated series all over the world and one can only keep expecting more from them.
