DONALD DUCK – DISNEY CARTOON CHARACTER

Donald Duck is a Disney character “born” in 1934. He has appeared in 178 theatrical films, beating even Mickey Mouse, who has starred in 137. Donald is easily recognized by the blue sailor suit and red bow tie he always wears as well as by his almost unintelligible manner of speaking.

One of the very famous cartoon characters of all time is Donald Duck. Walt Disney Productions created this character in 1934 as a white duck. This anthropomorphic cartoon character is designed in, a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet and would usually have a sailor shirt and cap worn. This is not forgetting the black or sometimes red bow tie that completes the outfit.
This character is very popular for being mischievous, temperamental, and for his semi-intelligible speech. Donald Duck and his friend Mickey Mouse make probably the most famous cartoon characters created by Disney and this claim was substantiated with the inclusion of Donald in the TV Guide’s list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters ever, published in 2002. Besides making this list as an affirmation of his popularity, Donald has also made more film appearances than any other character from the Disney world.
As mentioned earlier, Donald Duck made his first appearance in 1934 in The Wise Little Hen and his second appearance came in Orphan’s Benefit, where his temperamental side was actually introduced, foil to Mickey Mouse.
He went on to make strong appearances in more than a hundred theatrical films in less than twenty years after his first appearance. Many of these films got recognition at the Academy Awards. The 1930s got a comic trio of Mickey, Goofy and Donald with Don Donald being his own film series in 1937. This introduced Daisy Duck, who was his love interest and his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Chips Ahoy was his film in 1956 where Donald made his appearances primarily in educational films before he eventually returned to his famous theatrical animation in 1983 with Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Fantasia 2000, released in 1999 was another great success that featured Donald. The direct-to-video Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers released in 2004 and the television series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and the video game Quackshot are some of the great works Donald has appeared in.
Donald Duck is not only one of the very famous cartoon characters; he has also made huge appearances in comics with Al Taliferro, Carl Barks, and Don Rosa being some of the very famous people that have drawn Donald. Carl Barks is particularly credited for creating Scrooge McDuck, Donald’s rich uncle, and some other characters.
The Nordic countries in Europe really like the Donald Duck character, having many of his comic publications. And in fact, the term “Donaldism” was actually coined in Norway, being Disney comics’ fandom.
